April 22th - Berry and small fruit workshop,
Earth Day 9:30 a.m.
-4:00 p.m., at Montford Rec center Fruit
Orchard, Asheville. So
you want to grow some food?.... and you love fruit?...and want something
pretty? Hmmm... A vegetable garden is a little too much maintenance and you
cant quite squeeze a fruit tree into your yard.... Whoa, the world of
small fruits and berries is waiting for you! This workshop brings together
the nuts and bolts experience of a berry grower and the vision of a veteran,
edible landscape permaculturist for a hands on experience including
classroom style teaching in combination with outdoor practical application.
We will learn about varieties, site selection, soil prep, pest/disease
management and pollination, maintenance of individual plants as well as
designing a comprehensive edible hedge planting for landscaping and eating,
as well as wildlife and ornamental asthetics. If you have an affinity for
nutritious, sweet, juicy
treats, love beautiful plants and birds than this workshop is for you. Bring:
some gloves, boots, lunch and a
notebook as we will be preparing beds and planting our words. Walter
Harrill: is the sixth generation owner of Imladris farm in Fairview.
He runs 7 acres of mixed
berries commercially. Chuck
Marsh: is a certified Permaculture teacher & practitioner, and
is proprieter of Useful Plant nursery and consulting. All
profits from this workshop will be put towards the fruit trees at Montford
rec center, The Edible park, and
the proliferation of
fruit trees in schools and other public lands. Cost:
